As we come together for two powerhouse events, ISTELive and ASCD Annual Conference 26, we are reminded that leadership is not defined by a single idea or initiative. It is defined by our willingness to learn, adapt, and grow together. I am proud to lead by example by bringing an outstanding team of educators from my district, all committed to strengthening their practice and expanding their impact.
This special conference edition of Educational Leadership reflects that same commitment. It brings together some of the most compelling ideas in our field, grounded in both research and real-world application, and challenges us to move beyond reflection into meaningful action.
Each article reinforces a simple but important truth: Our work is evolving, and so must we. Whether we are strengthening belonging in our classrooms or rethinking assessment in a world shaped by artificial intelligence, we are being called to lead with both courage and clarity. This moment requires us to rethink how we support educators, how we design learning for every student, and how we build systems that are responsive, relevant, and sustainable.
The strength of this issue lies not only in the ideas, but in the people behind them. These authors are practitioners and thought leaders whose ideas can resonate here throughout this conference and once you return to your schools. Their articles create opportunities to extend
the learning beyond these pages and into practice.
For those who are new to Educational Leadership, this publication is more than a magazine. It is a trusted resource that equips educators with the insight, strategies, and perspectives needed to navigate complexity and lead with purpose. A subscription is not simply a member benefit. It is an investment in continuous growth and informed leadership.
As you engage with this issue and the broader conference experience, I encourage you to be intentional. Reflect on what resonates, but also lean into what challenges your thinking. The future of our work depends on our willingness to move beyond what’s comfortable and toward what’s possible.
Welcome to a space designed to inspire, to stretch, and to elevate our collective impact.
